Summary:
The Grey Heron is a very large and slightly awkward looking bird. It has a long white neck with black streaking on its underside, long yellow legs, and a long pointed yellow beak. The wings are grey with black patches at the shoulder, the wings have black ends which can be seen during flight.
Ecology:
Grey Herons are nearly always found near fresh water where they hunt for amphibians, fish and small mammals. As they hunt they walk very slowly, poised to strike. They nest in colonies, often seen high in trees in woodland but also amongst reedbeds at the margin of Stillwater.
